How does fear prevent me from being who I truly am?

"We are who we are!” This statement cannot be further from the truth. It would be more accurate to say, "We are constantly reinventing ourselves to suit the occasion, that we have lost sight of who we are".

We are born pure of mind, spirit and heart, flowing like a river unimpeded, pristine and true. In this early morning of our existence, life's obstacles are mere pebbles that do nothing to affect or interrupt our passage through life. As our mind develops, emotions guide our thoughts, opinions and judgments, gluing the pebbles together to form rocks that eventually cause us to change from our true selves.

This is a deliberate process put into play by our minds in order for us to 'survive' in the jungle that is society. This glue is FEAR! Fear of being ostracized, fear of ridicule, etc. The list of fears is seemingly endless. The cradle of our fears is uncertainty and insecurity. We are unsure of where we stand in the 'pecking order' with our peers, thus we change ourselves to suit the mood.

If we were to look closely at this 'society' that keeps us in a constant state of insecurity, we would find that it comprises of individuals as unsure and as insecure as ourselves. Be wary of those who claim to be leaders and those who preach from the pulpits, for the most insecure usually have the loudest voice.

Secure in the knowledge that everyone is insecure, be without fear and let not your mind but your spirit guide you straight and true to your ocean… The Universe.
